"If shoes can be said to have a personality, none have more so than the products of MAUD FRIZON's imagination."

Colin McDowell, author of SHOES - FASHION & FANTASY (Thames and Hudson)

Since the glamorous heydays of the 60's, and the opening of the first boutique in the legendary St-Germain-des-Prés district in Paris in 1969, MAUD FRIZON has created sexy, unpredictable shoes, impressing established fashion critics and amateur shoe-lovers alike.

As a young and in-demand haute-couture catwalk model for some of the largest French fashion houses in the 1960’s, Maud Frizon – the eponymous designer after which the brand is named – was intimately familiar with the world of fashion.

Unabashedly glamourous and with a sense of classic Parisienne sophistication to match, Maud Frizon's selective taste was such that she often had difficulty finding shoes that suited her. Frustrated by the shoes available on the market but inspired by the art of shoemaking and design, Maud Frizon eventually decided to pursue her passion for shoes and begin designing her own.

"Not since Cinderella has a woman caused as much to-do about shoes as MAUD FRIZON. Not even Imelda Marcos."

The Miami Herald, 1986

The debut collection, each pair carefully cut and finished by hand, was an immediate success. Critics praised the designs as stunning, sexy and unpredictable, and the collection captivated the eyes of the Parisian fashion world. Riding on this success, Maud Frizon soon after opened a boutique in the prestigious St-Germain-des-Prés district, and thus MAUD FRIZON was born.

Since then, MAUD FRIZON has become an iconic if not legendary name in the universe of footwear. Apart from the seasonal collections of the brand, MAUD FRIZON has also designed shoes for fashion houses such as AZZEDINE ALAÏA, CLAUDE MONTANA, THIERRY MUGLER and SONIA RYKIEL. MAUD FRIZON’s styles have been coveted by stars such as Catherine Deneuve, Brigitte Bardot, and inspired many more from around the world. From the brand’s unmistakable approach with material blocking to its signature usage and popularization of the cone heel, the influence of MAUD FRIZON’s creativity throughout the decades can still be seen in the universe of fashion today.

"For the past twenty years MAUD FRIZON has been creating such original and innovative shoes that they have been described as being to footwear what Dom Perignon is to champagne."
